Marc Chagall Paintings
Marc Chagall (1887 – 1985) was a Russian-French artist.

Chagall was considered as pioneer of modern art and one of its greatest figurative painters who invented a visual language that recorded the thrill and terror of the 20th century. For decades, he had been respected as the world's preeminent Jewish artist.

"When Matisse dies," Pablo Picasso remarked in the 1950s, "Chagall will be the only painter left who understands what colour really is". View Artist Collection

About Wars
"Wars" by Marc Chagall is his very large painting and was painted from 1964 to 1966.    The painting shows a rudimentary cart slowly leaves the city on fire, put to blood by the fighting of a war. Behind her, a man takes away all that remains of him in a bag thrown over his shoulder. All the other characters are devastated by despair.     Darkness (a sky without light) fell on the city. On the right is a Christ represented on his cross in the darkness, as forgotten by all. Only a kid, a symbol of the sacrifice of Jesus, is highlighted by light. The contrast between the bright red of the flames on the left and the white of the animal reinforces the horror.
