M.F. Hussain (Maqbool Fida Husain) Paintings

Maqbool Fida Husain (1915 - 2011) was a modern Indian painter of international acclaim, and a founding member of The Progressive Artists Group of Bombay (PAG). M F Husain was associated with Indian modernism in the 1940s.

Husain began his career by painting billboards for feature films. When he took up painting as an art form, he returned time and again to his roots, and to themes that blended folk, tribal and mythological art to create vibrantly contemporary, living art forms. His themes—sometimes treated in series—include topics as diverse as Gandhi, Mother Teresa, Ramayana, Mahabharata, British Raj, Bollywood, horses and motifs of Indian urban and rural life.

Husain’s name has become almost synonymous with modern Indian art, for no single artist has popularised Indian art. M F Husain was a special invitee along with Pablo Picasso at the Sao Paulo Biennial (Brazil) in 1971.

About Tiger and a Horse
"Two Horses" by M.F Husain is his very Famous Painting. The image of the horse has always remained a powerful motif in M.F. Husain's expansive oeuvre. In Indian mythology, the horse is revered as a symbol of the sun, of power, knowledge, and fertility. Similarly, Husain's horses are always depicted as strong and free-willed creatures, worthy of all their mythical and ritualistic symbolism.   In Indian mythology, the horse is revered as a symbol of the sun, of power, knowledge, and fertility.
