Salvador Dalí Paintings

The Spanish painter Salvador Dali remains one of the most controversial and paradoxical artists of the twentieth century. Over last few decades, Salvador Dali has gradually come to be seen, alongside the likes of Picasso and Matisse, as a prodigious figure whose life and work occupies a central and unique position in the history of modern art.

Dali has also come to be regarded not only as its most well-known exponent but also, to many people, as an individual artist synonymous with Surrealism itself. In addition, Dali was a great artist who was a great self-publicist and showman. The combination was an irresistible formula for success.

About Tristan And Iseult, 1944 By Salvador Dali
One of the most influential medieval tales, Tristan and Isolde finds its origin in Celtic Brittany and prefigures the tragic love story of Romeo and Juliet. As Tristan proposes to help his uncle Marc’h find a wife, he searches for Isolde, the daughter of the king of Ireland and brings her back to Brittany. During their journey, both drink a love potion by mistake and develop passionate feelings for one another while the king Marc’h marries the young woman, fully aware of their secret romance.   When Tristan finds himself badly wound and needs miraculous healing, only Isolde can help, however, pushed by jealousy, Tristan’s wife pretends the healer has not come and a desperate Tristan pierces himself with his sword. When Isolde arrives in Cornwall and discovers her lover’s death, she ultimately dies from sorrow. Marc’h touched by the two lovers decide to burry them side by side and soon a honeysuckle grows on Isolde’s tomb and a vine on Tristan’s. Both tree’s have interlaced each other, uniting the lovers for eternity despite the dramatic ending of their impossible love.
