About The Women of Bombay (12) Manchershaw Fakirjee Pithawalla c1905 Painting
In 1905, M. F. Pithawalla was commissioned to create an album - The Women of Bombay - of watercolours that focused on the different communities in the city of Bombay. This album was presented to Queen Mary (then the Princess of Wales) during her visit to India. It was part of an exquisitely illuminated welcome address presented by the women of Bombay.The album featured thirteen full-page watercolours depicting women from various Indian communities, including Parsi, Hindu (Bhattia), and Musalman (Sulimani) women, among others.
