The Stars (Les étoiles) - Wassily Kandinsky - Canvas Prints
The first issue of the avant-garde art magazine Verve had the four elements as its subject. The second issue from 1938 contained works about celestial bodies as part of the essay "The 12 Apartments of Heaven". Two of the four included prints were lithographed by Mourlot after gouaches by Kandinsky from the same year. He showed his "Comets" in a pitch black universe and his "Stars" in an abstract blue "Kandinsky Galaxy" that is reminiscent of the Andromeda galaxy. Consequently, there is a black circle in the middle of this galaxy, or rather: a black hole.
