"The Revolution" by Marc Chagall is his very famous historical painting.

The right half opposes to the political demand for equality the freedom of human fantasy. Musicians, clowns and animals unleash their exalted hubbub, the obligatory couple of lovers stretching on the roof of a wooden hut,

 

The union between the two halves is the figure of Lenin, swaying acrobatically, on one hand, indicating to revolutionaries the correct way to the world of concrete individualities.

Marc Chagall (1887 – 1985) was a Russian-French artist. Chagall was considered as pioneer of modern art and one of its greatest figurative painters who invented a visual language that recorded the thrill and terror of the 20th century. For decades, he has been respected as the world's preeminent Jewish artist. "When Matisse dies," Pablo Picasso remarked in the 1950s, "Chagall will be the only painter left who understands what colour really is".
