Edvard Munch Paintings

Edvard Munch (1863 – 1944)  was a Norwegian painter who played a great role in late 19th-century Symbolism.

The paintings he made focused on the internal view of the objects, as he believed that art should reflect an emotion or idea rather than represent the natural world in the objective. Munch explored the themes of love, fear, death, melancholia and anxiety via his paintings.

About The Kiss – Edvard Munch Painting
The dark ambiance of The Kiss is representative of Munch's ambivalence regarding romance. It's virtually impossible to separate the two figures, particularly where their faces meet and become one in the painting. Art historian Reinhold Heller considers the depiction of the lovers to represent their unity while at the same time representing a threatening "loss of individuality, a loss of one's own existence and identity" which hints at death. There are four variations of the woodcut on this theme. The Kiss I and II were produced in 1897 and were among Munch's earliest woodcuts. The Kiss III was created in 1898 and The Kiss IV in 1902. In each case the artist varies the nuances of the background by using different blocks that have been somewhat modified.

Accolades From Our Customers

I was really impressed with the quality of the work that I received from Tallenge Store. I love knowing that I’m supporting artists from around the world.
Tallenge Store was the first website I found where I could find art within my budget that I absolutely love. I just got my very own apartment so it was important to me to find art that suited me and I couldn’t be happier!
The team answered my questions very patiently prior to purchase and accommodated all my requests. The painting itself was delivered on time to me in London and the quality of packaging was commendable.
