About The Jagannath Temple with Simha Dwara (Lion Gate) With The Hindu Pantheon Pattachitra Indian Folk Art Krishna Painting
The divine triad of Krishna (as Lord of the Universe (Jagannath)), who is accompanied by his sister Subhadra and older half-brother Balabhadra (Balaram) are represented in a uniquely Odishan style. The painting depicts a major religious festival – the Rath Yatra or the "Festival of Chariots - celebrating Krishna at his temple in Puri, in Odisha (Orissa) in eastern India. The Yatra is a grand procession of three massive, decorated wooden chariots in which the deities travel from the Jagannath Temple to their aunt's home. This powerful display of devotion allows all to see the deities, and pulling the chariots' ropes is considered a great honor that bestows divine blessings and cleanses sins. The procession allows everyone, including those who are not permitted inside the temple, to have a sight of the deities.
