"Self Portrait" is a famous portrait by the Indian polymath Rabindranath Tagore depicts the full-face, self-portrait of the bearded artist. The dark background and the enhanced contour push the figure out from the ground. As with many of his other self-portraits this work has a prophet-like serenity mixed with a sense of inner anguish. The human face is a prominent constant in his artistic works and speaks of his undying interest in human persona. His faces speak of various moods: mysterious, brooding, dramatic, and romantic; of wonderment, fear, and melancholia. With dense crosshatching technique he created mysterious tonalities in his works.
