About Mandala Kingdom of Shambhala Buddhist Thangka Collection
In this painting, the hidden kingdom of Shambhala can be visualized through the sacred structure of the mandala, an architectural map of a Buddhist pureland.   In the center, the King of Shambhala stands guard over the temple housing the Kalachakra Tantra (Wheel of Time). It is said we are presently in the age of the twenty-first Kalkin King. The scene at the bottom depicts a passage in the Kalachakra detailing a prophecy of an epic battle, wherein the twenty-fifth and final Kalkin King calls upon his army to fight the enemies of Buddhism. The foretold victory will result in a golden age, a millennium of peace on earth. In the Central Asian tradition, devotees pray for rebirth in the pureland to participate in this future clash.
