About Lady with Swarbat

"Arjuna and Subhadra", a very famous and expensive painting by the Indian master Raja Ravi Varma, depicts the protagonist of the ancient Indian epic Mahabharata, Arjuna disguised as Sanyasi, with the younger sister of Krishna and Balarama, Subhadra. Arjuna and Subhadra fell in love with each other, a matter abetted by Sri Krishna, who had always been particularly attached to Arjuna, and wished nothing but the best for his sister Subhadra. Knowing that the entire family would view with disfavour the prospect of Subhadra becoming the fourth wife of her cousin Arjuna, Sri Krishna induced the couple to elope and depart for Indraprastha.
