"Krishna Leela"is a beautiful composition by the universally acclaimed Indian master M F Husain depicting the Hindu God Krishna and his divine magic. Hussain’s art involved an altered Cubist style, and incorporated primordial avenues of Indian mythology and culture. He frequently drew inspiration from epics such as the Mahabharata and Ramayana, and characterised gods and goddesses in modernist style.

Husain’s depictions of historic figures, rural and urban Indian life, and religious iconography grew increasingly experimental over his lifetime, culminating with an unfinished series of triptychs, “Indian Civilization,” which pays tribute to Indian history and reveals Husain’s own personal mythology.

Maqbool Fida Husain (1915 - 2011) was a modern Indian painter of international acclaim, and a founding member of The Progressive Artists Group of Bombay (PAG). M F Husain was associated with Indian modernism in the 1940s.    Husain began his career by painting billboards for feature films. When he took up painting as an art form, he returned time and again to his roots, and to themes that blended folk, tribal and mythological art to create vibrantly contemporary, living art forms. His themes—sometimes treated in series—include topics as diverse as Gandhi, Mother Teresa, Ramayana, Mahabharata, British Raj, Bollywood, horses and motifs of Indian urban and rural life.   Husain’s name has become almost synonymous with modern Indian art, for no single artist has popularised Indian art. M F Husain was a special invitee along with Pablo Picasso at the Sao Paulo Biennial (Brazil) in 1971.
