Krishna And The Gopis - Manaku And Nainsukh, Guler School C1780 - Vintage Indian Miniature Art Painting - Framed Prints

Krishna With Gopis has the tradition of Indian miniature painting which can be traced from the 9th-10th century in the Buddhist Pala period palm leaf manuscript of eastern India and in the western India in the Jaina palm leaf manuscript. With the introduction of paper in 12th century in India, illustrations on paper manuscript of larger format than the narrow palm leaf, began to come into vogue.

The Guler School continued to produce miniature works up to the close of the 19th Century. From the earliest extant Guler works up to the pinnacle, with the first generation after Nainsukh and Manaku, many families dedicated to painting in the distinguishable Guler style continued to produce beautiful paintings of liquid grace. Mughal and Sikh styles aside, the Guler Vaisnava paintings are certainly the finest works to have been painted by these artists.
