Richard the Lionheart (Richard I) is shown leaving the white cliffs of Dover with an expeditionary force to join the Third Crusade in Palestine for the recovery of Jerusalem from the Saracens on 11 December 1189. It was one of the important events in the world. During the crusades, the Muslims controlled Jerusalem and the Holy Land. The Christians of Europe tried to capture them.
