"Kali" is one of the famous painting by the Indian Artist Raja Ravi Varma, depicting the Hindu Goddess Kali in a scene where Lord Siva put himself under the foot of Kali to appease her anger after She kills the demon Mahishasura.

She is the Hindu goddess (or Devi) of death, time, and doomsday and is often associated with sexuality and violence, who brings the death of the ego as the illusory self-centered view of reality. Kali also embodies shakti - feminine energy, creativity and fertility - and is an incarnation of Parvati, wife of the great Hindu god Shiva. She is most often represented in art as a fearful fighting figure with a necklace of heads, skirt of arms, lolling tongue, and brandishing a knife dripping with blood.

Raja Ravi Varma was an Indian painter and artist, considered as one of the greatest painters in the history of Indian art. Varma is known for his amazing paintings, which revolve mainly around the Puranas and the great Indian epics - Mahabharata and Ramayana.   Raja Ravi Verma uniquely managed to accomplish a beautiful union of Indian sensibilities and iconography with the techniques of European academic art.
