Helen Frankenthaler (1928-2011) has long been recognized as one of the great American artists of the twentieth century.

Helen was the second generation of postwar American abstract painters and is widely credited with playing a pivotal role in the transition from Abstract Expressionism to Color Field painting. Through her invention of the soak-stain technique, she expanded the possibilities of abstraction, while at times referencing figuration and landscape in highly personal ways.

Helen Frankenthaler's first Ukiyo-e woodcut printed in 16 colors with nine woodblocks, on Torinoko paper mounted onto Hahnemühle paper, the full sheet. Helen Frankenthaler was one of the most influential members of the second generation of Abstract Expressionists and had a considerable impact on the transition from the prevailing New York School sensibilities to the subsequent Color Field style. Helen Frankenthaler was an American abstract expressionist painter. She was a major contributor to the history of postwar American painting. Having exhibited her work for over six decades (early 1950s until 2011), she spanned several generations of abstract painters while continuing to produce vital and ever-changing new work.
