Garden In Autumn - Kawase Hasui - Japanese Vintage Woodblock Ukiyo-e Print

Garden in Autumn – Kawase Hasui Garden in Autumn by Kawase Hasui is a serene Japanese landscape print capturing the quiet beauty of an autumn garden. Rich seasonal foliage, delicate architecture, and soft atmospheric light create a contemplative mood, characteristic of Hasui’s celebrated shin-hanga woodblock style. The restrained composition and subtle colors evoke the peaceful elegance of traditional Japan, transforming an ordinary garden scene into a poetic meditation on nature and the changing seasons. Kawase Hasui (1883–1957) was a prominent master of the 20th-century Shin-hanga ("New Prints") movement, which revitalized traditional Japanese woodblock printing (Ukiyo-e) by fusing classic subjects with modern Western artistic elements, such as realistic light, shadow, and atmospheric perspective.

Kawase Hasui (1883-1957) was one of the most prolific of all shin hanga ("new prints") printmakers and is regarded by many as one of the most talented Japanese landscape artist of the 20th Century. Kawase’s landscapes are markedly modern, yet they yearn for a Japan past and rest upon traditional virtues of delicacy, poise and restraint.   Hasui loved to travel and would often paint watercolors of Japan's most beautiful places.. In 1952, the Japanese government officially recognized Kawase Hasui as a Living National Treasure.
