Edvard Munch Paintings

Edvard Munch (1863 – 1944)  was a Norwegian painter who played a great role in late 19th-century Symbolism.

The paintings he made focused on the internal view of the objects, as he believed that art should reflect an emotion or idea rather than represent the natural world in the objective. Munch explored the themes of love, fear, death, melancholia and anxiety via his paintings.

About Four Girls In Asgardstrand
" Four Girls In Asgardstrand" by Edvard Munch is a rather famous painting showcasing the unity motif in a different realm. The child's mental world is one of many themes in Munch's art around the turn of the century, and children from the coastal village of Asgardstrand became an important group motif. Here Munch has placed four of the neighbours' children facing forwards against the yellow wall of his small house in Asgardstrand. The children are portrayed with a child-like trust in their expression, which also indicates a decorative intention.
