This represents the "Universal Mother" and her ability to protect her devotees from all directions simultaneously. Each arm holds a weapon gifted by a different god (Shiva's trident, Vishnu's discus, etc.), symbolizing that she is the combined energy (Devi Shakti) of the entire cosmos.

The most iconic artistic theme is Durga Mahishasuramardini—the slayer of the buffalo demon, Mahishasura – Representing the Victory of Dharma (Righteousness). Even in the heat of battle, her face is usually depicted as serene and composed, emphasizing that divine power operates through peace and resolve, rather than chaotic rage.

Her ‘vahana’ lion (or tiger) is crucial. It represents unbridled power and instinct. By riding the lion, Durga signifies that she has mastered these raw forces, showing that one must control their ego and passions to achieve spiritual growth.
