About Country Road, Near Lytham L S Lowry RA
'A Country Road' was painted by L.S Lowry in 1952. Lowry is recognised for his portrayals of busy urban landscapes in the north of England filled with stylised figures often referred to as 'matchstick men'. However, for this painting Lowry has focused on a quiet road in the middle of the Lancashire countryside. The large farmhouse on the left hand side is the only indication of village life and the centrally placed road draws our attention towards the empty horizon.
