This intimate work in oil has a rather ambiguous quality to it, due in part to both the atmospheric lighting effects and the seemingly random arrangement of the figures throughout the landscape. Although the dome of the church appears to be Italian, the figure to the left of the painting wears the traditional Catalan berentina. The figure of Dalí’s nursemaid Lucia can be found on the right, and the middle ground contains various equestrian figures, engaged in semi-nude combat. Dalí has truly created a sonata on the canvas.
