“After Prayers” is a fine display of Rudolf Ernst’s admiration for Muslim piety and Islamic architecture that he developed during his travels to the Middle East.

The picture plane is crowded with objects, creating an elaborate mosaic of exotic patterns, which play across surfaces as different as metals, brick and wall decorations and woven textiles.
