2026 Desk Calendar - Hiroshi Yoshida Collection
The Japanese artist Yoshida Hiroshi (1876–1950) is well-known for his beautiful woodblock prints of India. In 1930, Yoshida spent about four months traveling in India and the trip inspired a major series of 32 woodblock prints created over the following two years.
Yoshida was a leading figure in the Shin-hanga ("New Print") movement. He was particularly fascinated by the unique quality of light he found in India. His India series features famous landmarks across the subcontinent, including the Taj Mahal, Varanasi (Benares), Jaipur & Agra, the Himalayas, the Golden Temple at Amritsar, the Kailasa Temple at Ellora, and the Jama Masjid in Delhi.
His India series is a testament to his technical mastery and his ability to capture the spiritual and architectural grandeur of the places he visited, making these prints some of his most celebrated international works.
