Willem de Kooning (1904 – 1997) was a Dutch abstract expressionist artist, settled in America since 1926. In the years after World War II, Willem de Kooning painted in a style that came to be referred to as Abstract expressionism or "action painting", and was part of a group of artists that came to be known as the New York School. His artistic rivalry with another painter from the school - Jackson Pollock – for the title of "Greatest Living American Artist" led to some of the best works of art that has inspired artists for decades. About RosyFingered Dawn at Louse Point Willem de Kooning Abstract Expressionist Masterpiece Painting
'Rosy-Fingered Dawn at Louse Point' was named after one of De Kooning’s favorite places on Long Island in New York. Every day, he would take his bike to visit the same spot and look out over the water. Later, when he was back in his studio in New York, he painted the colorful abstract landscape from memory.Characteristic of the painting are the large areas of color, the pastel shades and the complex surfaces. The color is made up of a thick impasto and the pink resembles skin.
