Thomas Daniell was an English landscape painter who also painted Orientalist themes. Thomas Daniel made his name with a series of prints and aquatints of views based on his travels in India in 1786–1794. Such ‘exotic’ Indian scenes became the stock-in-trade for Daniell for the rest of his career. View Artist Collection

About Indra Sabha Thomas Daniell Vintage Orientalist Paintings of India
Plate 7 of 'Hindoo Excavations in the Mountain of Ellora near Aurangabad', engraved by Thomas Daniell (from the drawings of his deceased friend James Wales), which Daniell regarded as the sixth set of his 'Oriental Scenery'. This plate reverses the view of the Indra Sabha shrine seen in plate 6. The monolithic shrine, with a pyramidal superstructure topped by an octagonal roof, stands in the middle of the inner court of Indra Sabha cave. Beside it are a free-standing elephant and a column with Jain figures seated on top. The sides of the court are decorated with lion and elephant friezes and Tirthankaras.
