Sadahide Utagawa was born in 1807 under the given name of Hashimoto Kenjirōin in Fusa province. He was a pupil of the ukiyo-e master Kunisada Utagawa. Sadahide was a popular ukiyo-e artist of the late Edo and early Meiji period. The woodblock prints of Sadahide Utagawa were shown at the Japanese pavillion in the specatcular World Exhibition in Paris of 1866, together with such renowned artists like Zeshin Shibata.
