"Padmini" by Raja Ravi Varma is his very famous painting.

Raja Ravi Varma was born in Kilimanoor, Kerela in 1848. He later began formal training in water painting under Rama Swami Naidu, and later in oil painting by Dutch portraitist Theodor Jenson. Varma was an extremely gifted artist and quickly mastered the European technique of oil painting. He turned it into his own language by infusing his paintings with very Indian themes. In 1904 Viceroy Lord Curzon, on behalf of the King-Emperor bestowed upon Raja Ravi Varma the Kaiser-i-Hind Gold Medalthus giving his name a prefix of “Raja Ravi Varma” for the first time. In view of his significant contribution to Indian art, the Government of Kerala has named an award called Raja Ravi Varma Puraskaram, which is awarded every year to people who show excellence in the field of art and culture.
