In 1983 Warhol created Fish as a backdrop for his painting exhibition Paintings for Children at Bruno Bischofberger in Zurich. The wallpaper transformed the gallery walls into an aquarium and recalls Warhol's earlier iconic installation of his Cow wallpaper at the Castelli Gallery in April 1966. Andy Warhol was an iconic pop artist known for his vibrant and influential paintings. His works, characterized by bold colors and repetitive imagery, explored themes of consumerism, celebrity culture, and the mass media. Warhol revolutionized the art world and became a cultural icon himself. Andy Warhol’s prints are the world’s most sought after art and sell more than any other artist. Andy Warhol used distinctive silk-screening technique to create vibrant and repetitive images of famous individuals, capturing their glamour, allure, and often their public personas. Warhol's celebrity portraits, such as Marilyn Monroe, Elvis Presley, and Elizabeth Taylor, have become enduring symbols of fame. By elevating these celebrities to the status of art, Warhol challenged traditional notions of high and low culture while exploring the allure and transience of fame.

Andy Warhol (1928-1987) was a key figure in Pop Art, an art movement that emerged in America and elsewhere in the 1950s to become prominent over the next two decades. From haunting black and white self-portraits to Polaroid snapshots of celebrities, many of the photos in the collection later became the inspiration for Warhol's most well-known Pop Art pieces.
