The Madonna of the Village Large Framed Print
Framed With Mat •
35x36 inches
"The Madonna of the Village" by Marc Chagall shows a Madonna holding the Child in her arms, surrounded by angels singing and playing music accompanied by a flying cow with a violin. All these figures are messengers of peace and freedom. The scene is set near a small village. The Madonna, rendered on a monumental scale and wearing a bridal gown, floats in a fantasy world that is so characteristic of the painter. The giant candle lit, which illuminates the village at its feet, is for Chagall the sign of peace, warmth and hope, a symbol of the presence of God. From the chromatic point of view, the composition is divided into three parts: golden , blue, greenish. |

Marc Chagall (1887 – 1985) was a Russian-French artist. Chagall was considered as pioneer of modern art and one of its greatest figurative painters who invented a visual language that recorded the thrill and terror of the 20th century. For decades, he has been respected as the world's preeminent Jewish artist. "When Matisse dies," Pablo Picasso remarked in the 1950s, "Chagall will be the only painter left who understands what colour really is".
